Reading List

This is simply a list of what I have been reading. I'm not necessarily recommending these books as ones that you should read (although I am not likely to complete a book that I don't enjoy so perhaps I am recommending them). I also provide a brief summary and a link to the book in my local library system so those of you in Pierce County can find it easily. Happy reading!

1. "Confessions of a Scary Mommy" by Jill Smokler
Everything you think, as a mom, but wouldn't/shouldn't say out loud! Pierce County Library Link

2. "The Read-Aloud Handbook" by Jim Trelease
How to teach your children to want to read. Pierce County Library Link

3. "Left Neglected" by Lisa Genova
An amazing story of adjusting to life after an accident and discovering what is really important (with the cool neurological details that only Lisa Genova can make accessible). Pierce County Library Link

4. "The Woman Who Wasn't There: The True Story of an Incredible Deception" by Robin Gaby Fisher and Angelo J. Guglielmo, Jr.
You will be heartbroken to read the tale of America's most famous 9/11 survivor: how she was rescued by the man in the red bandanna, narrowly escaped the 2nd tower before it fell, lost her husband in the 1st tower, and spent weeks in a NYC hospital burn unit, only to turn her life around and become president of the WTC Survivor's Network and a role model for thousands of survivors. Except she wasn't really there. Pierce County Library Link

5. "The Hunger Games" Trilogy by Suzanne Collins
Post-apocalyptic North America has become a place of extremes: the people of the Capitol live in excess supplied by the oppressed people of the districts. To prevent uprising, the Capitol calls for 2 Tributes from each district to fight to the death in the Hunger Games. You will not be able to put these books down! I read all 3 in a week. :) Pierce County Library Link
